More than two hundred families of Atia village of Delduar upazila of Tangail depend on Pangas fish for their livelihood. Atia village has got a new identity as the village of Pangas. The fame of Pangas fish of this village is spreading around. Atiyar Pangas is meeting the demand for meat of lower middle class and middle class people of the district. Everyone in this village is now economically self-sufficient.

Pangas farmers have been made in the houses of Atiyar in Delduar upazila of Tangail. Pangas is now being cultivated in more than one and a half hundred ponds in this village. About two hundred families in the village are directly or indirectly involved in the cultivation of pangas, focusing on pona stocking, pangas cultivation, fishing and even selling in the market. Most of the village families are now financially self-sufficient in pangas cultivation. The quality of soil and water in the pond and the nutritious food cultivated in Pangas district have eroded the confidence of the people. Due to this, Atia village got a new identity as Pangas village. Pangas fish of this region is going to different districts of the country including Dhaka by meeting the local demand. However, due to the gradual increase in food prices in the last few years, the dividends of farmers have come down.


Pangas fish farmers in Atia village said it was important at this time to reduce food prices, increase government patronage including proper market management of fish.

In this regard, Delduar Upazila Fisheries Officer Atiyar Rahman said, the Upazila Fisheries Office is providing various kinds of assistance including bank loan and training to Pangas fish farmers.
